Calculate time difference

=NOW()-DATEVALUE("2019-07-01")

Formatting: Format -> Duraion.

  • 0:00:30 - 30 seconds ago
  • 0:40:30 - 40 minutes 30 seconds ago
  • 1:40:30 - 1 hour 40 minutes 30 seconds ago
  • 25:40:30 - 1 day 1 hour 40 minutes 30 seconds ago

NOTE: Alternative solution includes DATEDIF - Calculates the number of days, months, or years between two dates.

To enable auto refresh of elapsed time, goto File -> Spreadsheet settings -> Calculation -> Recalculate -> On change and every minutes.
