I try to create a new Instagram account via the Web and Android app, but keep showing sign up error
.
If I am using the Android app, there is an option to Report error
when the error occur (no such option for web signup). Sadly, Instagram will not get back to me even if I report the error (has been more than 1 week since the incident).
The worst consequences of sign up error
is:
- Your prefered
Username
is locked, so you can't signup again with the sameUsername
. - Forget password link won't work, as it will show
No user found
. - Your email/phone number is locked as well, so you can't signup again with the same Email/Phone Number.
I tried various support channel
- My Instagram account has been deactivated - No response from this.
- Email address already in use - I get a response after 1 day. They refuse to help and keep pointing me to I Can't Log in help page, which I have explain many times about the situtaion and the solution listed here won't work. After a few email exchange, they decide not to reply anymore.
- Twitter: @Instagram and @InstagramHeIp won't reply help request; pinging the Founder and CTO via Twitter won't help as well.
Eventually, after a few more trials using various email/username/platforms combination, eventually I realize the problem is the IPs. It seems Instragram has blacklisted a range of IPs from my ISP, so creating an account using IPs assigned by my ISP will always fail. I switch to my mobile Internet (from another ISP) and the account creation is successful without any problem.
RECOMMENDATION:
- Don't signup with your primary email / phone number. If the signup fail, this email / phone number is locked permanently and you can never use them with Instagram anymore.
- Don't signup with your prefered username. If the signup fail fail, this username is locked permanently and you can never use them with Instagram anymore.
- Use a secondary email and random username for signup. You can change them after the signup is successful.
