Win10 Create Desktop Shortcut of Application

Solution 1: Drag and drop from Start Menu

Click bottom right corner Windows icon (open Start Menu), find the app in All App List then drag and drop to desktop.

Solution 2: Pin to Start

If the app is not listed on All App List, click on Search icon and search for the App. Right click on the result and click on Pin to Start.

Click bottom right corner Windows icon (open Start Menu), and you will see the pinned App (on the right panel of All App List). Drag and drop to App to desktop.

Solution 3: Create shortcut

Click on Search icon and search for the App. Right click on the result and click on Open file location.

Right click on the executable/shortcut and click Create shortcut.

  • If you don't have permission to write to the folder, Windows will prompt Windows can't create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?. Click Yes.
  • If you have permission to write to the folder, the shortcut shall be created in the folder. Move the shortcut to Desktop.
